The HSA invites all HADM students and HSA members to the
3rd HSA Administrative Residency/Fellowship Panel.

This event highlights the opportunities required to jumpstart your career if you are striving to become a Healthcare Executive or even a CEO! Our esteemed panelists are current and former Administrative Fellows of major hospital systems in Houston. They will offer students an experienced insight into the daily activities and responsibilities of a fellowship program. Students can also put forward queries about the selection processes and skill requirements of the various programs offered by the leading Healthcare institutions in Houston. The event provides a great opportunity to step into the world of Healthcare Networking.

Come and meet past and current Administrative Fellows including Alumni of UHCL, and get to know how they mastered their way through fellowships in Healthcare Administration.

Dear HSA members and Healthcare Administration Students,
HSA invites you to join us on Wednesday, February 3, 2016, 6 pm conference room #131 at UHCL-TMC campus to welcome our new members, introduce new officers, and discuss what we have in store for HSA this Spring.

We are really excited about our upcoming events and so we encourage you to not miss out. This Spring we will offer volunteer opportunities, social events, and one-to-one interaction sessions with our esteemed fellowship panel. More details will be shared throughout the semester.


Membership and dues 

Please be prepared to pay your $35 annual membership at the meeting; this fee will secure your membership, as well as ensure you receive multiple opportunities to enhance your network and knowledge in the healthcare field.

First HSA meeting this semester on January 27

HSA invites you all to our first HSA meeting this semester on January 27, 2016, 6 pm in the conference room #131 at UHCL-TMC campus.

The ideal start for NEW HSA members will be our next HSA meeting on the firstWednesday in February, which is February 3rd, 2016. In that meeting we will give broad information about HSA, our goals, etc. HSA will invite you all to this meeting with a separate email.

Membership and dues 

We will have new Membership and dues regulation starting 2016. Prices will remain $35 for a whole year, due in January. New: Proportional payments will be possible for new members joining in Summer or Fall Semester. More details on this will follow after the HSA meeting on January 27.

UPDATED: 2nd Administrative Fellowship Panel hosted by HSA

The upcoming 2nd Administrative Fellowship Panel is the second panel hosted by HSA. It is a great door opener for new students into the world of Health Care Networking. Come meet past and current Administrative Fellows including Alumni of UHCL, hear their stories, and get to know how they mastered their way through residencies and fellowships in Health Care Administration.

  • Sara Loewy, former Houston Methodist Fellow.Sara joined the Administrative Fellowship after completing a Bachelors of Arts at the UniversBusiness Headshots for Houston Methodist Hospital.ity of Texas at Austin and a Master of Business Administration at the Jones Graduate School of Business, Rice University.
    Sara’s passion for healthcare was inspired during the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. As her hometown of New Orleans began the long recovery process, she recognized that local and regional healthcare institutions would require massive financial and intellectual resources to prevent a disaster of that magnitude from ever occurring again. Her passion became her career when she began working as the Marketing Director at Doctors Imaging Services, an independent outpatient imaging company in New Orleans. There she had the opportunity to work with employees from all levels of the organization and learned firsthand the value of strong organizational communication.

  • Zach Weyand: Former Houston Methodist Fellow.
    Untitled 2013 – University of Houston –  Clear Lake, MBA/MHA 2010 – Texas A&M University, BA – Business ManagementZach Weyand serves as Project Manager at Houston Methodist West (HMW) since January 2015. HMW is a 193-bed community hospital located in the fastest growing suburb of West Houston. Zach has over 6 years of experience in healthcare. Zach has wide-ranging experience in finance, operations, reporting and analysis, healthcare planning and development, and project management. Zach started at Houston Methodist Sugar Land as a Patient Access Representative in 2011 and completed 18 month global fellowship at Houston Methodist in December 2014.

  • Jennifer Abbey: Current Fellow at Kelsey Seybold.
    JenniferIn her Position as the Administrative Fellow Operations Management at Kelsey-Seybold Clinics, Jennifer reports to the Vice President of Operations. She has exposure to strategic planning, finance, leadership and the nation’s first accredited Accountable Care Organization. She has exposure to strategic planning, finance, leadership and the nation’s first accredited Accountable Care Organization. Jennifer interned at Baylor College of Medicine as a Ambulatory Care Services Intern, where she gained knowledge of hospital processes and procedures and helped enhancing awareness and effectiveness of healthcare performance improvement.

  • Jane Slusher: Current Houston Methodist Fellow.
    janeJane is currently an Administrative Fellow at Houston Methodist. She received her Master of Business Administration with a concentration in Healthcare Management from the University of Texas at Dallas. Prior to completing her MBA, Jane gained valuable healthcare experience working for a patient advocacy company. During her time as a patient advocate, she served as a resource for patients to understand and navigate through the complexities of the healthcare system. It was in this role that Jane developed a keen interest in healthcare and a desire to learn more. During her MBA program she worked as an intern at Willis Knighton Health System in Shreveport, Louisiana. In this role she gained an increased understanding of hospital operations. She worked as part of the Process Improvement department on projects aimed at increasing operational efficiency in the Operating Rooms and in the Cardiac Cath Labs.

    OriginKatieally from Memphis, Tennessee, Katie received a Master of Business Administration from the University of Alabama at Birmingham and will receive a Master of Science in Health Administration upon completion of her fellowship at MD Anderson. During her time at UAB, Katie interned in customer support with Greenway Health, an electronic health record company. She also served as the graduate administrative intern for Spar Medical, a medical sales company. Katie holds a Six Sigma Green Belt for Healthcare from the Institute of Industrial Engineers, and was the New Member Chair on the Junior Executive Board for the American Cancer Society in Birmingham, Alabama.

    Originally from Pasadena, Texas, Taylor received a Master of Health Administration dtayloregree from the Texas A&M University School of Public Health. While at Texas A&M, Taylor interned at Houston Methodist Hospital, where she worked on a Lean project to improve patient satisfaction in the surgical department. She also completed an internship at East Texas Medical Center-Fairfield, where she analyzed and improved processes in the Rural Health Clinic and emergency room.LinkedIn Profile:
  • Marie Jeanne Nisnisan: Current fellow at Kindred.
    MJMarie Jeanne Nisnisan graduated from Houston Baptist University with a degree in Biology and a minor in Business Administration. She later pursued her Masters degree in Healthcare Administration at the University of Houston – Clear Lake. She has held positions in multiple settings ranging from physician practice management to academic medicine. She is currently an Executive Fellow with Kindred Healthcare’s hospital division in the Houston integrated market.

President and CEO of Houston Methodist Hospital.

Dr. Boom is president and CEO of Houston Methodist in Houston, Texas. Houston Methodist is a 1,000+ bed hospital network consistently ranked among the country’s best by U.S. News & World Report, and named by FORTUNE as one of America’s “100 Best companies to Work for.” Houston Methodist is affiliated with a number of academic institutions that support its teaching and research initiatives. These include Weill Cornell Medical College, New York Presbyterian Hospital, Baylor College of Medicine, University of Houston; Texas A&M and UT-Health Science Center.

Dr. Boom holds a B.S. in Biology with High Honors from the University of Texas at Austin, an M.D. with High Honors from Baylor College of Medicine, and an M.B.A. from The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. He completed a residency in internal medicine at Massachusetts General Hospital, Harvard Medical School, and fellowships in geriatric medicine and general medicine at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. He is board certified in internal medicine and geriatric medicine and is a Fellow of the American College of Physicians.

Dr. Boom is also an assistant professor of Medicine at Weill Medical College of Cornell University, an adjunct professor of management, policy and community health at The University of Texas School of Public Health and previously an adjunct professor of Management at Rice University. Dr. Boom is a member of numerous professional and community organizations including the American College of Healthcare Executives, The Leadership Institute, the American College of Physician Executives, the University of Texas College of Natural Sciences Advisory Council; and, the American Heart Association where he is Past-President of the Board for the Houston Office. He represents Houston Methodist Hospital within the University HealthSystem Consortium (UHC) on the Board of Directors. He also serves on the boards of the Texas Hospital Association as well as the Greater Houston Partnership, where he is chair of the Health Care Advisory Committee. He maintains a part-time clinical practice where his special interests are preventive medicine, lipid disorders, and hypertension.
